We Survived Our First Weekend Getaway With an Infant

Honestly, Leia did soooooo much better than I could have ever imagined and hoped for. We left Friday and came back Sunday, so we had two overnight stays. I was worried being in an unknown environment might through her schedule off.

Leia slept just as good as on the trip as she does at home. Yes, I’m one of those very fortunate (and blessed) moms whose baby sleeps through the night (at least right now – knock on wood). Oh, and daddy sleeps perfectly fine, every night, even when mommy is up pumping and feeding the baby.

I planned in advance for all types of scenarios that could happen on our trip. I made sure to over-pack, just in case. I had recently bought some Thirty One products from my sister’s party (first experience with that company). In my order, I bought this cute utility tote bag that I had customized with Leia’s initials.

Thirty One Utility Tote Bag.

I ended up deciding to use that bag to pack all of her stuff. It worked out perfectly for us. Having an open top allowed me to access what I needed throughout the trip without having to dig around too much or putting her stuff in the hotel’s furniture. Check them out if you’re interested.

The car ride both there and home was pretty pleasant. She had to sit in her car seat for hours at a time and she didn’t cry much. We stopped to eat and use the restroom a couple of times and we were able to change and feed her on those stops (as needed).

At the hotel, we learned the Comotomo bottles (mentioned in my ‘New Mom Must Have Items‘ post), fit perfectly in the sink drain to run water and warm the baby’s bottle.  The bottle’s base blocks the water from draining – who knew? What a blessing that was, because Leia isn’t a big fan of room temp or cold milk. It had to be the perfect temp (such a princess 😉).

We took Leia to the pool. This was her second time in a pool. Her first experience didn’t end very well. She screamed like crazy the entire time. Needless to say, we didn’t stay very long.

This time though, while there was definitely some crying, she seemed to get used to it after a little while. I’m still not sold that she likes it yet, but hoping by her next couple of experiences she’ll learn to enjoy it – fingers crossed.

My husband and I watched the sunrise together. That was a rare occurrence, especially these days. These are memories we’ll always cherish.

Overall, we had a great time. Having a baby certainly changes your plans, but you just have to adjust. We’re so happy we were able to get away for the weekend. It was needed.

I love my little family! 💜

If you’re hesitant, I encourage you to give a trip with your infant a try. Plan and prepare in advance and it’ll be fine.

I would love to hear about your getaway experiences with your babies – comment and let me know.
