Can We Get More Parking and Changing Tables Please?

Today, I am going to tackle parking spots and changing tables.  Yes, this is a vent post.  😊

Let’s talk about changing tables first.  In this day and age, it should be a requirement for all restaurants (at minimum) to have at least one changing table in their restrooms.  Honestly, any place of business that expects someone to spend time and money in their place of business should HAVE one (at least one).  It is pretty ridiculous the amount of times I have had to sit on a bathroom floor or bring my baby to my car just to change her diaper.  It is such an inconvenience, plus it is GROSS!  Really, both the men and women’s restrooms should have them.  It is already a HUGE hassle changing a baby, yet alone in a public space and then you don’t even provide a changing table for us to use — talk about frustrating.  For all businesses that have one, kudos to you.  Businesses that have one in both the women and men’s restrooms you ROCK!  If you’re just starting a business or already have one, just do it – your customers with babies will truly appreciate it (trust me).

Parking spaces.  Okay, so walking is good for you all the time (no matter if you’re pregnant or not), I get that.  However, when you’re pregnant, some days you just don’t have that much energy – especially in those last few months.  It would be nice for every business to have at least one parking space dedicated to expectant mothers / mothers with small children (unless you’re a small business.  The bigger the business you are (i.e. Walmart, Costco, Kroger, etc…) you should have enough spots dedicated for your volume of customers.  For example, my OBGYN office is located on a hospital campus and they have a few spots dedicated to expectant mothers, but there is not enough.  When I have to walk (for what feels like a mile) in the burning heat of summer, for every appointment 7, 8, 9 months pregnant, it just isn’t cool.  Then, when you have the baby, you have to lug it and the car seat around to and from the business and/or a shopping cart.  It is not light my friend, plus it only gets heavier.  At the end of the day, women can do it regardless, but it is just nice to have some help sometimes.

We all know women are AWESOME creatures and can do/will do anything they have to, to function and take care of their family!  We rock!

What are some things you think could be improved as a pregnant woman or a new mother?  Share in the comments.
